For the enjoyment of our seniors and betterment of our community

COVID-19 Response – Closure OF Mira Mesa Senior Center

We will close the Mira Mesa Senior Center March 17-April 3, 2020.

On Monday, March 16, we will be open only from 11:00am-1:00pm, so affected patrons can receive their meal and sign-up for home lunch delivery during the closure. If you will not need home meal delivery, we ask you to take responsibility for your health, and help us minimize social exposure, by staying home.

The coronavirus is now classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a pandemic, with exponential increases in its impact around the world. The Mira Mesa Senior Center’s closure actions were taken after thoughtful discussions with center’s management and patrons and taking note of California officials’ call to ban social gatherings to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Regarding the status of San Diego Continuing Education classes at the senior center, we have been notified as of today,

  • Effective Monday, March 16, all classes are canceled. No students are to come to campus (this includes the senior center) …
  • Effective Monday, March 23, classes will resume and will be taught in a remote/ alternative modality. …. There is no knowledge of when, or if, on-campus instruction (…including at the senior center…) will resume during the spring semester.

Note: Some instructors are creating a plan for students to continue classes without visiting the senior center. We expect instructors will reach out to their students for further announcement.

We recognize this is a challenging time for all, and we remain deeply committed to the safety of our seniors and communities.

It is important to remain diligent. For more information, please see the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency COVID-19 Response Plan. We ask that you please comply and follow all steps to protect yourself with the recommendations set forth by the CDC here.

Sincerely,

MITZ LEE
